A delightful destination in Morocco, Essaouira is filled with history, boasting a variety of activities and offering a break from the hustle and bustle of life.

Essaouira was designed as a fortified town surrounded by Vauban-style ramparts. The city played a major role as an international trading seaport, linking Morocco and sub-Saharan Africa with Europe and the rest of the world.

Essaouira has become one of the most popular coastal towns in Morocco. Car-free and clean, it is known for its fishing port and its blue fleet of wooden fishing boats. There are lots of great dining options; close to the port there are tables set up where you can choose your lunch from fish and seafood that has literally just been pulled out of the water.

The Medina of Essaouira is one of the best maintained medinas in Morocco. Its numerous craft shops and art galleries attract visitors from all over the world.

Visit in late June, where you’ll be joining a big crowd who travel to the city to attend the world-renowned Gnaoua Festival of World Music held annually. Artists and spectators from around the world descend on the city for an amazing music extravaganza. So be sure not to miss out on the delights of Essaouira when visiting Morocco.
